[греч. kreas (kreatos) — мясо и лат. - in(e) — суффикс, обозначающий "подобный"]ß-метилгуанидинуксусная кислота, присутствующая в мышцах позвоночных гл. обр. в форме фосфокреатина. Фосфатная группа последнего с помощью фермента креатинкиназы переносится на аденозиндифосфат с образованием АТФ (см. аденозинтрифосфорная кислота) и К. В результате дегидратации К. образуется креатинин, который присутствует в моче, крови и мышцах. Красное мясо — один из лучших природных источников К. Используется как компонент спортивного питания.
