2 Kaffir Alro Shawl
A coarse cotton twill fabric made for Africa, where it is worn as a shawl. It is made 60-in. wide in 72-in. lengths with fringes at both ends. About 10 ends and 8 picks per inch, 6's warp, 2's, 3's or 4's weft. All the yarn is coloured. Sometimes the weft is cotton-and-shoddy mixture. -
3 Kaffir Hemp
A very strong white bast fibre, yielded by the South African Grewia Occidentalis; used for rope and cloth by the Kaffirs. The fibre is obtained by a process of retting. -
4 Kaffir Sheeting Cloth
A heavy cotton fabric made from coarse low-grade cotton yarns and used by the natives in South Africa for clothing. The short length pieces have fancy coloured headings and are usually shipped in the loom state.
