There is a strong odour with these carpets, due to the imperfect washing of the raw material. A dress fabric woven from worsted yarns for warp and woollen for weft, either with the 2 X 1 warp twill or 5-end satin weave. The sett in the warp is much closer than in weft. The finish is a raised one. The illustration shows the 5-end satin design. One quality is made 40's worsted warp, 32's woollen weft, 80 X 40, per inch. Also made with wool warp and worsted weft in 5-end satin weave with twill running to the left. About 80 X 48, 2/60's warp, 40's worsted weft, from 45 to 56-in. A variety of Cashmere shawl made 11/2 yards X 31/2 yards in size. The term is sometimes used to denote a bed covering made of wool or cotton having printed or woven borders. The Doshalla shawl is woven and sold in pairs and is the most esteemed production of the Cashmere looms. They vary in pattern and colours. A good quality Florentine cotton drill cloth, four-shaft weave, such as 88 ends and 72 picks per inch, 20's T., 18's W., dyed khaki colour and used for military purposes. Widths vary from 27-in. to 40-in. In addition to military requirements, many qualities are made for tropical suitings and overalls. They are shipped to India, Egypt, South America, China, etc. Standard makes are: - The last cloth is especially used in India and Argentina for military and other clothing. Khaki drill is also made with wool yarns specially prepared from a standard mixing which is 80 per cent olive brown, 5 per cent indigo, 15 per cent white. -

Rugs made in Turkey. The loose and short pile is tied in Ghiordes knot. Very bright reds, blues and yellows are usually used in a great variety of designs. Woven with selvedges and the ends are fringed. Made from wool warp and coarse cotton weft. -

A plain weave cotton cloth with a black stripe about 1-in. wide at each selvedge, woven 50-in. to 56-in. wide, about 64 reed, 24 to 32 picks per inch, 36's hard spun twist, and 10's to 16's weft. The cloth is raised on one side and piece-dyed. It was originally made with wool yarns in the 56-in. width, and fulled finish with a short nap. Used for bed coverings and curtains and given as presents at weddings, birthdays, etc. A narrow style is popular made 30-in. 20 yards, 58 ends and 37 picks per inch, 32's warp, 21's weft, and sized to weigh 15-lb. per piece. -
