Ti·tel <-s, -> [ʼti:tl̩] m1) ( Überschrift) heading2) ( Namenszusatz) [academic] title3) (Adels\Titel) title¿Kultur?Die Titel Dr, Mr und Mrs sowie der neutrale weibliche Titel Ms werden in Großbritannien ohne Punkt und in den USA oft mit Punkt geschrieben. Bei Anschriften wird in Großbritannien häufig der Titel Esq., die Abkürzung für esquire, hinter den männlichen Nachnamen als Zeichen des Respekts gesetzt, z.B. John Grant Esq. Die Titel Sir und Madam werden fast nur noch zur Anrede in Briefen verwendet; für Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren sagt man im Englischen Dear Sir or Madam. Als Ehrentitel gehört Sir zum Vornamen, z.B. wird David Attenborough als Sir David angesprochen. Frauen werden mit Dame, z.B. Dame Iris Murdoch, angeredet. Die Ehrentitel Baron und Baroness werden bei Herren vor den Nachnamen, z.B. Richard Attenborough als Baron Attenborough, und bei Frauen vor den Vornamen gestellt, z.B. Ruth Rendell als Baroness Ruth. Die Ehrentitel Lord und Lady werden jeweils nur vor den Nachnamen gestellt. -
