[IEV number 482-03-27]Аккумуляторы, как и первичные элементы, подвержены саморазряду. Этот процесс приводит к бесполезному расходованию активных веществ пластин, снижает отдачу аккумулятора. Саморазряд вызывается неоднородностью пластин, наличием в электролите вредных примесей (хлора, мышьяка, железа и др.), коррозией электродов, несовершенством изоляции внешних выводов, неодинаковой плотностью электролита в сосуде.
Свинцовая основа пластины и ее активное вещество имеют различные химические свойства. Поэтому между ними возникает разность потенциалов и местные токи, вызывающие изменение активных веществ пластин, снижение разрядной емкости.
Местные токи в пластинах возникают также в результате неодинаковой плотности электролита в различных частях сосудов. Плотность электролита в нижней части сосудов обычно выше, чем в верхней части. Саморазряд свинцовых аккумуляторов зависит от температуры электролита. При положительной температуре (до +30 'С) неработающие свинцовые аккумуляторы теряют за сутки приблизительно 1 % своей емкости. При температурах, больших +30 'С, саморазряд свинцовых, аккумуляторов резко увеличивается. Интенсивность саморазряда снижается при отрицательных температурах (от 0 до — 30 'С).

NOTE – Zero electric resistance is a hypothetical condition and in practice the short-circuit current is the peak current flowing in a circuit of very low resistance compared to the internal resistance of the battery.
