(страхование) Юридический контракт, в соответствии с которым страховщик ( insurer) обязуется выплатить определенную сумму другой стороне-застрахованному (insured) в случае, если произойдет какое-то определенное событие (называемое риск; опасность (peril)) и в результате этого застрахованная сторона понесет убытки. Застрахованная сторона в соответствии с контрактом обязуется выплачивать определенную сумму, называемую страховая премия/ взнос (premium), или единовременно, или через регулярные промежутки времени. Чтобы страховой контракт имел законную силу, застрахованный должен иметь страхуемый интерес (insurable interest). Обычно слово “insurance” (“обеспечение гарантии”) используется для определения событий, которые могут случиться, а могут и нет (например, пожар), в то время как слово “assurance” (“обеспечение уверенности”) используется для обозначения события (например, смерти), которое неизбежно когда-нибудь да наступает (см. также: life assurance( страхование жизни)).
