81 Motia
MOTIA, also GAZIA low class of plain weave cotton cloth woven in India from Indian cotton. The various qualities are used for all domestic and clothing needs of the natives. Usually 30-in. to 36-in. wide, 36 to 48 ends and picks per inch, and up to 28's or 30' warp and weft. -
82 Mushajjar
Originally a native-made silk and cotton satin in Punjab, India, printed with floral designs. Pine Indian cotton yarns were used and the cloth woven on hand looms. Quality about 98 ends and 60 picks per inch 50's warp, 42's weft. The cloth is now imported from England. The term means " laid out with trees " in the vernacular. -
83 Nilsaria
A strong, plain weave cotton cloth made on hand looms in the Madras Presidency. Printed with blue spots. Usually made in warp stripes. Indian cotton yarn is used, about 16's. -
84 Penang
A heavy, plain weave cotton fabric, woven on hand looms from Indian cotton in the Madras area. Printed and used for garments. -
85 Swadeshi
This term is applied to all plain grey cotton fabrics woven in India from Indian cotton on native hand looms. Usual makes range from 26 to 40 ends and picks per inch, and 7's warp, 4's weft, up to about 16's warp and 20's weft. -
86 Bhagwa
Indian term. A small-size waist cloth worn between the legs and tied round the waist. Hand woven from Indian cotton yarns. -
87 Jhapara
A native woven Indian muslin cloth, made from Indian cotton and embroidered with floral designs in silk. About 48 ends and 42 picks per inch, 40's T., 40's W. The yarns generally are of a brown tint. -

89 Amerikano Gamti
This term is applied to a coarse grey sheeting imported from India by the East Coast of Africa traders. It is very dark coloured as it is made from native Indian cotton of about 14's to 16's counts. -

A variety of short staple Indian cotton, which is sown both early and late; the early is sown June/July, and is picked November to March, while the late is sown August/September, and picked March/ April. -

Plain weave cloth woven on hand looms from coarse yams, used by women of the lower classes in Bankura (Bengal); about 9's to 11's counts, spun from Indian cotton. -

These are used for covering floors. They sometimes contain broad stripes of coloured ends and are generally of a very thick quality. Woven on hand looms from Indian cotton. -

96 Khasa
A native-made Indian cotton muslin of fine texture in plain weave. Known in the 16th and 17th centuries under the name of Cossac. The finest variety was called Jungle-Khasu. Made 20 yards long and 36-in. to 54-in. wide, having 1,400 to 2,800 warp threads. Weight of a piece 101/2-oz. to 21-oz. -

A closely woven East Indian cotton muslin. -
98 Parkalia
A fine calico made in India, 28-in. to 36-in., 72 ends and 68 picks per inch, 36's warp, 36's weft. Generally made on hand looms from Indian cotton. The picks, nominally 68, may vary from 60 to 74 -
