i. d. R. senkrecht stehendes flächenhaftes Bauteil als Bestandteil von Gebäuden. Das hochdeutsche Wort Wand ist über das althochdeutsche "want" vom indogermanischen "uonedh" herzuleiten. Letzteres bedeutete: Geflecht, das mit Lehm bestrichen wird (vgl.: Lehmbauweisen, Lehmstakung). Wand war ursprünglich ein Begriff des urtümlichen Holzskelettbaus. Hinsichtlich der statischen Anforderungen wird unterschieden in aussteifende, nichttragende und tragende Wände, hinsichtlich der Anordnung im Gebäude in Außenwände und Innenwände oder Trennwände.Erläuterung wichtiger Begriffe des Bauwesens mit Abbildungen > Wand
