Употребление модального глагола must, модальных конструкций have to и have got to1)а) Для сообщения о том, что нечто обязательно должно быть сделано, используется модальный глагол must, а также модальные конструкции have to и have got to. Конструкция have got to чаще используется в разговорном английском.I have to/have got to/must tell you something — Я должен вам кое-что рассказать.
If the roads are not used they still have to/have got to/must be paid by the people who are within the county — Даже если дороги не используются, за них все равно должны платить люди, которые приписаны к округу.
б) Для сообщения о том, что кто-то должен сделать что-то в будущем, используются must, have (got) to и will have to.I have to/will have to/must take the first train not to be late — Мне придется сесть на первый поезд, чтобы не опоздать.
2)а) Использование конструкций have to и have got to предполагает, что необходимость обусловлена внешними по отношению к субъекту действия обстоятельствами, возможно, санкционирована властями или просто другим человеком. Если же сам говорящий считает, что нечто обязательно должно быть сделано, используется must.I have to go and talk to her — Я должен пойти и поговорить с ней (Она меня сама вызвала).
I must go and talk to her — Я должен пойти и поговорить с ней (Я сам хочу с ней кое-что обсудить).
б) have to и have got to используются, если речь идет о необходимости, связанной с индивидуальными особенностями или привычками некоторого человека.I have to/have got to to eat three burgers before I am full — Я должен съесть три гамбургера, чтобы почувствовать себя сытым.
3) Если мы делаем заключение, логический вывод о том, что нечто произошло или о том, что нечто истинно, используется must. Have (got) to в этом случае не используется.The door is open. He must be at home — Дверь открыта. Должно быть, он дома.
4)а) Для описания события, которое должно было произойти в прошлом, и действительно произошло, используется had to. При описании события, которое должно было произойти в прошлом, но не произошло, используется конструкции should/ought to + perf. infinitive, be to + perf. infinitive (см. should, ought to, must 2а, be to 4)We had to rewrite all our textbooks, from primary school to university level — Нам пришлось переписать все наши учебники, от школьного до университетского уровня.

б) Для обозначения логического вывода, соотносимого с прошлым, используется конструкция must + perf. infinitive (см. Perfect infinitive and Perfect infinitive passive).The murderer must have escaped by the window — Убийца, должно быть, сбежал через окно.

а) Конструкции have to и have got to, как правило, взаимозаменимы. Тем не менее, если речь идет о повторяющейся ситуации (в частности, если употреблены наречия частотности, такие как always, never, normally, rarely, sometimes), обычно используется конструкция have to (ср. также have / have got 1г).I often have to do shopping before I go to work — Мне часто приходится делать покупки, перед тем как я иду на работу.
