Соединения водорода с металлами и менее электроотрицательными элементами (неметаллами). Различают простые (бинарные) г.; комплексные, напр. алюминогидриды У(АlН4), Са(АlH4)2 и т.п., борогидриды Аl(ВН4), Zr(BH4), Са(ВН4) и др. и г. интерметаллидов LaNijH6, TiFeHj, Mg2NiHj и т.п. Для большинства переходных металлов известны тж. комплексные соединения.
В завис-ти от природы связи элемента с водородом г. подразделяют на: ковалентные (г. неметаллов SiH4, а тж. Al, Be, Sn, Sb), имеющие выc. реакц. способность (сильные восстановители, высокотоксичны AsH3, PH3); ионные (гидриды ЩМ и ЩЗМ, кроме Mg) с выc. хим. активностью и металлоподобные (гидриды переходных металлов и РЗМ): MgH3, TiH2, ZrH2, PdHO6, LaH2, и др., рассматрив. как фазы внедрения водорода в металл. Они устойчивы на воздухе при комн. темп-ре, медленно реагируют с О2, Н2О и водяным паром. М. б. получены взаимодействием металла с Н2 при обычной или повыш. темп-ре (напр., TiH2 и LaH3 синтезируют при 150—200 оС).
Г. интерметаллидов рассматривают как аккумуляторы слабосвязан. водорода или как «накопители водорода». В последние 10-15 лет изучены возможности получения «накопителей водорода» на основе соединений систем: Mn-Zr, Mn-Ti, Zr-Ni-Mn, Ti-Mn-Co, Mn-Ti-P3M-Cr.
