Высокоскоростной доступ в Интернет по кабельным сетям представляет собой технологию широкополосной связи, предоставляемой операторами кабельных сетей (известных также под названием многофункциональных операторов (MSO)). Эта технология обеспечивает высокоскоростной доступ в Интернет из дома по стандартным сетям кабельного телевидения. Такой доступ дает пользователям возможность загружать данные из Интернета со скоростью от нескольких сотен килобит в секунду до 30 Мегабит в секунду, однако полоса пропускания существенно зависит от кабельной сети, поскольку последняя является сетью с разделяемой пропускной способностью. Высокоскоростной доступ в Интернет осуществляется по открытым кабельным сетям, обеспечивающим низкую безопасность пользователей, напрямую подключенных к кабельной сети без использования маршрутизатора/брандмауэра для кабельных сетей или DSL-соединений.
