1 Gros
The French term for a fabric with cross ribs, such as Grosgrain, Gros des Indes, Gros de Hondres and Gros de Naples. Also used as a prefix for stout thick fabrics. -

Similar to Gros d'Afrique, but with a finer warp. -
3 Gros Des Indes
Silk fabrics as Gros de Naples, but having coloured crossover stripes in the weft. Grege silk all through and the wefts vary in counts, plain weave. -

6 Gros D'afrique
A French fabric with silk warp and rayon or cotton weft. A coarse warp is used and two or three wefts of different counts, plain weave. -
7 Gros D'afrique Corde

A twilled rib grege warp, grege weft, dyed the same colour as the warp. Also made with polished cotton weft of another colour, arranged pick and pick. -

A woollen dress material with alpaca weft. -
14 Gros De Hondres
A repp fabric for dress purposes reeded 2-ends and 1-end per dent alternately, usually the 2-ends are different in colour than the single ends. Thick and thin wefts are used. Woven with about 350-ends per inch of 16 denier silk organzine warp and cotton weft. In the example illustrated there are three single picks of 20's cotton forming the trough of the repp, while the bold rib is formed by floating the double ends of warp over two picks - weaving as one - of 6/20's cotton. The weft is hidden by the silk warp. -
15 Gros De Londres
A light-weight silk fabric, woven with alternate narrow and wide flat ribs. It has a glossy finish and is made in colours and changeable effects. Much used for hats and dresses. -
16 Gros De Lyon
A weft rib fabric of French make. The warp is arranged one end fine, and two coarse, all across, using two-fold cotton weft. -
17 Gros De Messine
A dress fabric with organzine warp forming the face and thicker silk weft to give a rib effect. -
18 Gros De Naples
A well-woven plain weave silk fabric, made from good organzine silk. Both warp and weft are doubled yams with more threads per inch in the warp than weft. -
19 Gros De Suez
A silk material in dull lustre used as a lining for bonnets. Made 18-in. wide, with fine ribs. Also called Turquoise Silk. -
20 Gros De Suisse
A silk dress cloth woven with two warps, one fine and the other coarse, and coarse weft. Grege warp and weft.
