Учения кабинетного типа в режиме реального времени (не обязательно проходящие на объекте Игр) с участием руководящей группы поддержки, которая разрабатывает сценарии проведения учений и наблюдает за действиями команд. В ходе таких мероприятий, в основном, отрабатывается информационное взаимодействие. Участников размещают в разных помещениях/зонах, исходя из их функциональных задач, где им предстоит общаться между собой с помощью средств связи, которые будут использоваться во время Игр (радио и телефоны), или же перемещаться по объекту для непосредственного общения. Такие учения характеризуются тем, что их участники разъединены в пространстве, а оперативным группам приходится действовать с учетом нескольких вариантов развития событий. Моделирование ситуаций проводится накануне тестовых мероприятий и до того, как команды переедут на объекты, которые они будут обслуживать во время Игр.

SIM
Real-time laboratory-type exercise (which can be conducted in the actual Games-time location, but not necessarily) involving a "driving team" which facilitates the exercise. The driving team feeds scenarios and observes the team responses, and therefore communication is the key testing outcome. Participants are separated into different rooms/spaces based on their functional role and communicate using Games-time devices such as radios and telephones or by moving around to speak face to face. This exercise is characterized by the introduction of geographic separation and by the need for operational teams to address multiple scenarios at once. Simulations are conducted prior to test events and prior to venue teams moving to their venues for the Games time.
