Евангелистская организация. Создана в 1865 в Лондоне методистским священником У. Бутом [Booth, William]; в США начала действовать с 1880. Ставит своей целью распространение идей и догматов Евангелия через проповеди и оказание социальной, медицинской, консультативной, моральной и иной помощи, включая помощь в чрезвычайных ситуациях. Содержит столовые, ночлежные дома, молодежные клубы; работает с осужденными и т.д. Возглавляется "генералом" [General]. "Солдаты" Армии спасения носят форму, перед проповедью обычно играет духовой оркестр. Один из способов сбора пожертвований - через добровольцев [bell-ringers], стоящих в рождественские дни с колокольчиком у входов в магазины. Официальный печатный орган - "Боевой клич" [ War Cry, The]. Имеет более 8 тыс. центров и более 445 тыс. членов (1993) в США. Национальная штаб-квартира в г. Алегзандрия, шт. Вирджиния.
