       Prolifico director que trabajo en el cine mudo y en el sonoro, en peliculas de nivel alto artistico y en productos de serie B. Aunque empieza con Paramount en 1917, sus primeros filmes sonoros, y practicamente todos los que dirigio en la decada de los treinta, fueron productos Warner Brothers, entre los que hay que des tacar Dangerous (1935), por el que Bette Davis ob tuvo un Oscar a la Mejor Actriz. Con vencionalmente orientado hacia dramas, melodramas y comedias, su filmografia es muy irregular, y en ella se alternan peliculas aceptables y/o de exito popular con otras que no estan a la altura minima exigible. Alfred E. Green realizo un buen numero de biopics y tuvo, tambien, ocasion de dirigir cinco westerns, entre los que destaca claramente Cuatro caras del Oeste.
