(2). Русское словосочетание вдвое меньше в английском передается посредством конструкции с half: half as many для исчисляемых существительных и half as much для неисчисляемых:He has spent half as much time on it as I have — Он потратил вдвое меньше времени на это, чем я.
Русское в три раза меньше, чем соответствует английскому three times less than… В этой конструкции после слова less существительное не употребляется:Women got three times less than men did for the same job — Женщины за ту же работу получили втрое меньше мужчин.
(3). В сравнительных оборотах в разговорной речи предпочтительнее сочетание not so many/much, not as many (cold, high) as smth. (4). Сравнительный оборот less… than обычно стоит после основного глагола, причем прилагательное less стоит перед определяемым существительным:I have less time than all of you — У меня меньше времени, чем у вас всех.
