Fessel, vinculum (alles, waszum Binden dient, das Band, die Fessel, der Strick; im Plur., die Bande eines Missetäters; bildl. = Hemmungsmittel, Einschränkungsmittel). – catēna (die Kette, Fessel, als metallenes Werkzeug). – nervus (die Sehne; dah. meton. = die aus Sehnen verfertigte Schnur). – manĭca (das Handeisen, die Handfessel). – compes (die den Unterschenkel umgebende dicke u. schwere Fessel, um das Gehen [Entlaufen] des Gefesselten zu erschweren, Fußfessel, Fußeisen; bildl., wie vinculum = Hemmungsmittel, s. Cic. Tusc. 1, 75: vincula u. compedes corporis, d. i. der die Seele in Fesseln haltende Leib). – pedĭca (die Schlinge od.
