In an earlier source, the Etymologies, Tolkien gave the Quenya word for "finger" as lepsë (possibly with stem lepsi-, as indicated by the deleted ancestral form lepti, see VT45:27). The term ortil (ortill-, pl. ortilli given), "up-point", is also used for "finger". is the apparent meaning of yérë, a word that is not really glossed, but derived from the root YER "feel sexual desire" (VT46:23). The word hroafelmë, "body-impulse" (VT41:19 cf. 13) is also said to cover sexual desire (but likewise physical fear, hunger, or thirst). -
