Механизм, предотвращающий экспрессию гена и, следовательно, синтез соответствующего фермента (см. также репрессор). Репрессия происходит тогда, когда репрессор связывается с оператором не иначе, как в комплексе с низкомолекулярным кофактором (см. также корепрессор)
.Процесс ингибирования путей синтеза ферментов глюкозой или её метаболитами. Катаболитная репрессия регулирует катаболические реакции; лежит в основе, например, явления диауксии.
