    צָדַק(b. h.; reduplic. of זק; cmp. זָכָה) (to be clear, pure, sincere, to be right, true, just; to be cleared. Y.Snh.IV, 22b top יכול אם צ׳ בדינך יִצְדַּק בדיני you may think, if he (the guilty) is cleared in thy court, he will also be cleared in my (Gods) court. Pi. צִדֵּק 1) (cmp. זכה) to act in favor of a person; to be liberal. B. Bath.88b (ref. to Deut. 25:15) צַדֶּק משלך ותן לו be liberal with what is thine own and give it to him, i. e. add overweight and overmeasure (גֵּירוּמִים); Ḥull.134a (ref. to the poor mans share). Num. R. s. 2 (ref. to ואתן צדק Job 26:3) צי׳ עמהם שלאוכ׳ the Lord dealt kindly with them in not changing their arrangements. 2) to justify, declare or consider a person right; to defend. Gen.     צִיוּוּי, צִוּוּיm. (צָיָה, Pi. ) command. Y.Kil.I, 27b top אין כתיב בצ׳ אלא בהוצאה (not בציוי) ‘after its kind (with reference to herbs) is not written in the command (Gen. 1:11), but only in the ‘bringing forth (ib. 12). Y.Sabb.XVI, 15c מאה … דבר אמירה צ׳ one hundred and seventy-five sections in the Torah are introduced by dabber, ĕmor, or tsav. Y.Yoma I, 38b לצ׳ (not לציוו) as to the execution of the order (Lev. 8:5 sq.), opp. למצוה as to the general command (Ex. 29:9). Num. R. s. 7 כל מקום שנאמר צ׳ הצ׳ מידוכ׳ wherever the word tsav is used, the order refers to the immediate present and to the future; אין צ׳ … זריזות tsav has everywhere the meaning of encouraging; אין צ׳ … חסרון כיס tsav always refers to a loss of money (material sacrifice); אין צ׳ … אזהרה tsav means warning.
