branch of science and technology dealing with the motion of charge carriers in vacuum, gas or semiconductor, the resulting electric conduction phenomena, and their applications
NOTE 1 – Phenomena and applications such as electric arc welding, ignition sparks in motors, corona effect are generally excluded from electronics.
NOTE 2 – In French, the term "électronique" is also used for the electronic part of an apparatus or equipment which performs one or more specific functions.

Прибор, состоящий из герметичного стеклянного корпуса, внутри которого расположены анод и катод.
Раньше в схемах компьютеров, телевизоров и радиоприемников широко использовались электронные лампы. Их вытеснили транзисторы, а затем - Интегральные Схемы (ИС). В настоящее время широко используется большая электронная лампа, именуемая Электронно-Лучевой Трубкой (ЭЛТ). Кроме этого, электронные лампы применяются в ряде схем.

device in which electric conduction takes place by movement of electrons or ions between electrodes through a vacuum or gaseous medium within a gas-tight envelope
NOTE – Examples of electronic tubes are triodes, tetrodes, cathode-ray tubes. Excluded are several specific devices, e.g. particle accelerators, electronic microscopes, tubes for lighting, gas lasers.
