Jh. von dem kalvinistischen Reformator John Knox stark beeinflusst wurde. Church elders - Älteste geben zusammen mit dem minister - Pfarrer auf Gemeindeebene die Richtung vor, und eine demokratisch organisierte General Assembly - Generalversammlung bestimmt den Kurs auf nationaler Ebene. In Irland und Wales gibt es keine Staatskirche. -
