branch of science and technology dealing with the motion of charge carriers in vacuum, gas or semiconductor, the resulting electric conduction phenomena, and their applications
NOTE 1 – Phenomena and applications such as electric arc welding, ignition sparks in motors, corona effect are generally excluded from electronics.
NOTE 2 – In French, the term "électronique" is also used for the electronic part of an apparatus or equipment which performs one or more specific functions.

2 loi de Moore
La loi de Moore concerne les puces électroniques. Cofondateur et P-DG d’Intel de 1975 à 1987, Gordon Moore observe que le nombre de circuits intégrés présents sur une puce double tous tous les ans. En avril 1965, dans un article de la revue Electronics Magazine sur l’avenir des composants de semi-conducteurs, Gordon Moore effectue cette extrapolation basée sur une observation empirique. En 1975, il l’actualise en portant la durée à deux ans. Cette extrapolation est ensuite baptisée loi de Moore par l’un de ses amis, Carver Mead, professeur à Caltech (California Institute of Technology). Devenue célèbre, la loi de Moore s’étend ensuite à toute l’industrie informatique, pour mesurer sa croissance rapide, et devient par là-même le catalyseur de cette croissance. -
