21 Agave Saxi
A variety of Pita fibre also known as Henequen. Principally grown in Yucatan and is used for cordage. Much used by the Mexicans. The fibre is white to pale straw in colour is stiff and short and very liable to rot; very elastic and has a wavy appearance. -
22 Brazilian Piassava
A fibre obtained from the leaves of Attalea funifera and exported from Brazil and other South American countries. The fibre is a light to dark brown, fairly elastic and up to two yards in length. Used for brush making, mats, etc.Dictionary of the English textile terms > Brazilian Piassava

23 Slipe Wool
The wool obtained from the skins of slaughtered sheep by treatment with lime. Through contact with the lime, which penetrates the fibre, wool treated by this means is harsh in handle and grey and dull in colour, while the operation of washing is made much more difficult and expensive. Lime is only sparingly soluble in water, it loosens the fibre quite well, but it also dissolves substance and leaves the wool drier and less elastic. The lime also combines with the internal yolk, forming a lime soap which is exceedingly difficult to get rid of. Besides this the " slipe " usually contains free lime in the form of small pellets embedded in the staple. Some wools are put on the market containing 8 per cent of free lime, while the combined lime may amount to 2 per cent of the weight of the wool, depending on the strength of the solution and the duration of the immersion. Every pound of free lime destroys 15-lb. of soap. "Slipe" wool is largely employed in crossbred top-making for serges and hosiery of medium-class types. Low qualities are also employed in the manufacture of cheap hosiery, carpets, woollen suitings, blankets, flannels, and rugs. -

28 Cotton (American)
American. There are four important varieties of American cotton: - Orleans - This is the best variety, staple about 11/8-in, white to light cream in colour, strong, regular, elastic. The cottons known as " Benders ' ' Peelers, ' " Allan Seed belong to this variety Texas - A cotton similar to Orleans, but deeper in colour and with a staple about 1-in. It is a strong cotton, and much used for warp yarns Uplands A clean and soft cotton, staple about 1-in. It is not so strong as Orleans or Texas. Generally used for weft Mobile - The poorest of American cottons. Staple about 7/8-in not as clean as the others and weaker in fibre Pima - A special type of American grown cotton known as Pima, which is an American Egyptian variety of about 13/4-in staple. -
29 Dunchee Hemp
Strong and very elastic bast fibre, yielded by the Sesbania Aculeata in India. Used for ropes and as a substitute for hemp. -
30 Saxony Wool
Wools of the highest class, their fineness and regularity of fibre is unequalled. They have excellent clothing properties, the fibres are full of serrations, the staple is short, the wool is elastic, having good felting powers and is of good colour. It is used in making the best woollen fabrics.
