В черновой группе полосовых станов горячей прокатки вертикальная клеть может устанавливаться: для небольшого обжатия по ширине с целью взламывания окалины (с удалением гидросбивом); в составе универсальной клети перед (или перед и после) клетью с горизонтальными валками для снятия уширения после прокатки в горизонтальных валках и управлением шириной раската; с дисковыми валками (диаметром до 2200 мм) — для интенсивного обжатия по ширине непрерывнолитых слябов.
