Anzeichen, indicium (Anzeige). – signum (Merkmal, Kennzeichen; beide einer vorhandenen od. erst zu erwartenden Sache). – significatio (Kundgebung, Andeutung). – praesagium (vorempfundene Andeutung, z. B. tempestatis futurae; im Plur. verb., praesagia et indicia futuri periculi). – ostentum. prodigium. portentum (merkwürdige Erscheinung u. zwar ost. übh. eine ungewöhnliche Erscheinung, die man auf die Zukunft deutet, prod. u. port. Wunderzeichen, die auf die [165] ferne Zukunft hindeuten, u. zwar prod. jede außerordentliche, das Bevorstehende [meist Unglück] andeutende Naturerscheinung, port. etwas, bes. Unglück Weissagendes, Grausenhaftes). – omen (alles, was zufällig gehört od. gesehen wird und woraus man Gutes od. Böses prophezeit). – augurium (A. für zukünftige Dinge aus dem Vogelflug). – ein gutes, glückliches A., ostentum laetum (laetissimum); omen bonum, dextrum, secundum, faustum: ein trauriges A., omen triste, foedum, funestum: verdächtige Anzeichen, suspiciones. – ein A. von etw. sein, alcis rei indicium od. signum esse (s. oben); alcis rei praenuntium esse (der Vorbote sein, z. B. venturi im bris, v. Donner): ich nehme das A. an, accipio omen; placet omen: die Anzeichen der Götter verachten, quae a dis significantur contemnere.
