    Xitanus, gitanos. —Nus tempus d'endenantes cundu you era guaxe, toes les aldines de la miou Tierrina taben ameruxáes d'istes prexones ya d'oitres qu'achegaben fasta lus nuexus chugares catandu dalguna ruquera qu'enzular p'afogar la prietona fame que lus encibiétchaba, peru de toes les xentes qu'achegaben ya caúna col sou rexistru, lus únicus qu'arrapiegaben dalgu yeren lus intelixentes ya estutus xitanus, vou cuntabus nagora a la memoria d'istes ximples, xenciétches, intelixentes ya desprestixáes xentes isti tratu que cheldarun d'enría d'un veicín miou. TRADUCCIÓN.—En los tiempos pasados cuando yo era un niño, todas las aldeas de mi querida Tierrina, estaban, plagadas de estas gentes y de otras parecidas, que llegaban a nuestras aldeas buscando alguna cosa para comer, con el fin de ahogar la grande hambre que los encadenaba, pero de todas las personas que llegaban y cada una con su oficio bien entrenado y aprendido, los únicos que lograban engañar y sacar partido de sus trapisondas eran los inteligentes gitanos. Yo les voy a contar ahora a la memoria de estas simples y sencillas gentes, de estas buenas, inteligentes y despreciadas personas, un trato que hicieron con un vecino de mi aldea que siempre se las dio de listo, pensando que por mal que fuese el trato, él siempre saldría ganando, ya que su pollino valía muy poco. "PIN EL TOIPU" “JOSÉ EL TOPO” —Chegarun lus xitanus naquel díe del mes de coyer el pan mu cedu a la miou aldina, tou la nuétche la borrina apaxiétchara l'aldina con choramicus d'orfina, anxín yera que tous lus erus taben orbayainus, ya lus pancicales llucíen sous espigues enxemáes sous ariestes d'urpinas d'orfinadura, tal paicíen les espigues que yeren xoyes de finu goru, dientru de repuxáus cadexinus de plata de bona lley. —Llegaron los gitanos aquel día del mes de recoger el trigo (agosto), muy temprano a mi aldea, toda la noche la densa niebla había vestido a la aldea con finas lágrimas que casi invisiblemente de la niebla se desprendían, así era que todos sus campos estaban mojados, y los trigales lucían sus espigas llenas sus aristas de delicado rocío, tal parecían las espigas joyas del más fino oro, dentro de repujados de finas cadenas de buena plata de ley. —Taba la borrina pe la fondeirá de lus préus de la braña, ya tal paicíe qu'aquel díe 'l sol diba ser de figal, anxín yera qu'al nun puder coyer el pan per tar moyáu, cuaxi toes les xentes poucu teníen que faer, perque la yerbe tóa ya taba nel payar perque tou 'l branu fora un magosteiru, per isti cheldar toes les xentes andaben d'un lláu p'oitre chuquinandu 'l tempu, menus lus qu'andaben curiandu 'l ganáu. Anxina yera que la ñovedá de lus xitanus faía qu'el cutidianu tempu s'espiertare dálgu qu'agüéchar nuéu. —Aquechus xitanus chegaben prietus comu les rexes del xardu, amagostáus sous focicus pel sol de lus caminus, ya prietus tous sous pelleyus que chebaben al entestate, que cuaxi, cuaxi andaben en porriques, perque tantu lus homes comu les mucheres traíen sous paxiétchus tan eszarapáus, tan amamplenáus d'esgazaduras per tous lus lláus, que solu lus homes tapaben lus coyones, ya les muyeres la clica yal entamu, perque lus nenus andaben cuaxi d'afechu en porriques. Yera aquecha caterba de xitanus ente lus de sou clás lus mái probes, perque nin tan xiquiér teñíen nin pequenu nin ruín querru, tou contu teñíen chebábenlu d'enría de les costiétches ya del llombu de sous pótchinus. Istus xitanus per lu xeneral son mái pelligróuxus ya galaméan munchu máu depriexa d'un lláu p'oitre nun istanti, que lus que cheben querrus, pos ístus xamás faen les rapiegáes de lus oitres, perque tenen teixá dou catalus que son lus querrus dou s'ateíxan. TRADUCCIÓN.—Aquellos gitanos llegaban negros como las barras del xardu, tostados sus rostros por el sol de los caminos, así como también negros eran los cutis que lucían al aire, pues casi del todo andaban desnudos, porque tanto los hombres como las mujeres, traían sus vestidos tan rotos, tan sumamente despedazados por todas partes, que solo los hombres se tapaban los cojones y las mujeres el culo y las tetas porque los niños andaban casi completamente desnudos. —Era aquella tribu de gitanos entre los de su raza los más pobres, porque ni tan siquiera tenían ni ruino, ni pequeño carro, todo cuanto poseían lo llevaban encima de sus esqueléticas costillas y al lomo de sus pollinos. Esta clase de gitanos por regla general eran más peligrosos y se movían con más rapidez de un lado para otro en un instante, cosa que no podían hacer los que llevaban carros, pues estos jamás cometían los ladronizos de los primeros, porque tenían su casa dónde ir a buscarlos que eran los carros donde vivían. —Chuéu toes les xentes de l'aldina que teñíen dalgúna couxa que perder puxérunxe na guardia de llindiar aquechus xitanacus que lu mesmu arrapiegaben una pita, que cuallesquier oitra couxa menus les ferramientes de trabayu ya les madreñas, pos istes prexés yeren p'échus una ufenxa pa sous dinidáes. —Fexerun sou chariegu debaxu lus húrrus, xeitu dou s’ateixaben toes les xentes que comu échus espatuxaben pel mundiu adiantri, yeren ente mucheres guaxes ya homes un cabanáu de mái d'una ucena, ya sólu traíen tres pótchinus, dous burraxus grandies ya enteirus, tan flacus ya prietus comu taben échus, anxín comu 'na pótchinada pequena ya ruina, que viaxaba xin dalgun aparexu danría 'l sou cadarmeiru llombu, you nun sei xin yera perque nun tendríen mái albardes ou lú que fore, ou perque teñía un pótchinín de pouques xemanes tan famientu ya esguiláu comu tous échus. Nun istantín xebrárunse tóus nel trabayar de sous deleres, metandu qu'angunus quedaben debaxu 'l húrru dexaparexandu les couxes de lus pótchinus oitres tremáus pe l'aldina cataban buxíu pa les sous cestiquínes con mires d'escambiayes per comedera, ou leyíen la bona xuerte, ou chaben les cartes, ou miagaben llimosnes aqueches mucheres que chebaben un nenu d’entamu pal cuál pedigueñaben pel amore del Faidor dalgu de lleichi ou farina, ou pataques, ou fabes, pos ya nel atayu del pedigüeñáu tou lu que fora yera p'échus un antroxáu de festa. —Nel treminu de poucu tempu, tizarun el fuéu, puxeron el pote ya fixerun dalgu callentri, nun sei lu que yera, ya despós de ben gradiada l'aldina, rexúntarunse tóus enxemáus d'allegría, ya falandu na sou xerga metanes enzulaban el potaxín qu'encaldaran, tal paicía que yeren mái fellices que tou l'aldina xunta. TRADUCCIÓN.—Pronto todas las gentes de mi aldea que tenían alguna cosa que perder, se pusieron en guardia para cuidar aquellos gitanos, que lo mismo robaban una gallina, que cualquier otra cosa, pues todo les venía bien y érales necesario, todo menos las herramientas de trabajo y las almadreñas, pues estas preséas, eran para ellos una ofensa hacía sus dignidades muy particulares tan sólo con mirarlas. —Hicieron su campamento debajo de los hórreos de la aldea, lugar donde se aposentaban todas las gentes que como ellos caminaban por el mundo adelante, eran entre mujeres, niños y hombres, un tropel de gentes de más de una docena, y sólo traían tres pollinos, dos grandes burros sin capar, tan flacos y hambrientos como estaban sus dueños, así como una borrica pequeña y ruina, que viajaba sin ninguna clase de aparejos encima de su cadavérico lomo, bien fuese porque no tenían más albardas, o porque estaba criando un pollinín de pocas semanas tan hambriento y enflaquecido como todos los seres que componían aquella tribu. En pocos momentos se repartieron todos sus trabajos, mientras que unos se quedaban debajo del hórreo desaparejando las miserables cosas que traían encima de sus pollinos, otros se repartieron por la aldina, buscando la forma de acomodar a sus cestas en el cambio de comedera, otros leían la buena suerte, o echaban las cartas, o pedían limosnas aquellas mujeres que llevaban un niño de rollo entre sus brazos, para el cuál rogaban por el amor del Hacedor, un poco de leche, o harina, patatas, judías, pues ya caminantes en el atajo de pedir, todo cuanto les dieran para ellos era un regalo de fiesta. —Despos d’engayolar un migayu lus sous ventronacus, perque fartar nun viexen féchulu por lo rápido que habían comido, y lo poco que manejaran la cuchara, pués you agüétchabalus andar a xorbiatus de sous pletus ya cazuelus, per lu que cullumbréi que l'únicu que viexen faíu, fora callentar el estómagu conún tarreñaín de caldapius. Falu que coyerun lus sous pótchinus lus homes d'aquecha tribu 'n compaña de lus sous guaxes que comu you yeren zaragoletus, ya xebrárunxe p'escontres la veira 'l ríu, con mires de catar blimbes ya delgu de comedeira pa lus sous burraxus, perque per tous lus lláus taba la campíz amagostá d'afechu per cuaxa de les callores de tou 'l branu, peru lus pótchinus de lus xitanus manque sean viétchus rumien cuallesquier clás de fuéas ou yerbaxus, pos cundu la fame ye grandie, lu mesmu les prexones que lus anemales nun le ponen mal focicu a dalguna clás de comedera, pos tou ye comu 'n mamxar, ya les boques mái escosáes de caniles, rabilen ya ruquen cuaxi lu mesmu que xin lluciéranxe ben ferramientáes, perque la fame fae millagrus en tous lus xentíus menus nel del estómadu. —Un de lus tres pótchinus el de mexor presencia, chevaba una cabezá cuaxi nuéa, con grandies ureyeres, ya mosqueires de collorinus que remataben nunes moutes comu la de les monteires de lus xoldiáus, xegun el miou preciar, aquecha cabezá teñía mái vallor que tous lus paxiétchus, fatus, cacíus e aparexus que chelaba la tribu enteira. TRADUCCIÓN.—Después de entretener o engañar un poco el estómago, porque hartar no debieron de haberlo hecho, por lo rápido que habían comido y lo poco que manejaron la cuchara, pues yo los observaba beber con ansiosos tragos por sus platos o escudillas, por lo que saque en consecuencia, que lo único que habían hecho no había sido otra cosa, que el calentarse un poco el estómago, con aquel puchero de pobres caldos. Dígoles que nada más dejar los platos, cogieron los hombres de aquella tribu sus burros, y acompañados por los niños mayorcitos, se marcharon para la orilla del pequeño río, con miras de buscar mimbres y alguna hierba para darles de comer a sus animales, ya que por todos los lados se encontraba el campo quemado del todo por la causa del excesivo calor de aquel verano, pero los pollinos de los gitanos, así como todas las gentes y animales del mundo, bien sean viejos o nuevos, comen o rumian cualquier clase de alimentación cuando son atacados por el grande hambre, pues con esta esquelética señora por dueña, tanto las personas, como los animales, no le ponen mal hocico a ninguna clase de comida, ya que la más despreciable es un rico manjar, y hasta las bocas limpias de todo diente, trituran y rumian casi lo mismo, que las que tienen un buen dentamen, porque el hambre, hace milagros en todos los sentidos menos en el del estómago. —Uno de los tres pollinos, el de mejor presencia, llevaba puesta una cabezada casi nueva, con grandes orejeras claveteadas, y mosquiteras de diferentes colores, que terminaban en unas borlas, como las que llevan los gorros de los soldados. Según mi apreciar, aquella cabezada tenía ella solo más valor, que todos los vestidos, y demás ropas, cacharros y aparejos de toda la tribu. —Cundu lus xitanus chegarun al regueiru dexarun a la pótchina yal oitre buche xueltus, paque guarecieren per achindi 'l sou antoxu lu pocu que viexe que pastiar, metantu qu'al pótchin de la lluxóusa cabezá, l'arretrigarun al tueru d'una figaleta, chandói achindi delgu de xegáu qu' apradiaben per les xinuexes veires del regueiru, que xegaretaben conún foicinacu, tal paicíe qu’aquel pótchin tratábenlu mexor que a lus oitres, per unguna razón que you entavía nun comprendíe, achindi rucandu arretrigáu a la figalina taba enzulandu lu quei chaben, metandu qu'al lláu d'él taba un xitanu pulgandu ou escortexandu blimbes, cundu paxóu per el cháu d'él Pín el Xordapu, que comencipióu a nomaxe 'l Toipu disdi aquel mesmu díe. Pín qu'entendía d'animales per viexe criáu xempre 'l lláu d'échus, cundu agüétchou aquel burru de bona prexencia, que rucaba comu 'n condenáu aquechus yerbatus, ya qu'auxaba les mosques a patáes, rabotazus ya fasta con xeniu col sou focicu fasta 'l xeitu qu'el ramal lu dexare, comencipióu a falar col xitanu de couxes que you nun ureaba perque taba dalgu lonxe d'échus xugaretiandu a lus mious deleres, metantu uxerba a lus xitanus lu que faíen per la veira del regueiru, anxín me lu dixu que fixera miou tíu, que teñía un patacal per aquechus chugares, ya nun fora que lus xitanus fozaran en él ya l'arrapiegaren un manegáu de pataques. —Nagua you les uyía de lu que falaben, peru xin qu’agüétchaba a Pín afilbanar per tous lus lláus al buche con güeyáes ximulóuxes, pa despós cundu s'allevantóu 'l xitanu dexandu 'l sou trabayu, comincipiar a rexistrar el burru anxín per altu. Despós vilu colar pala sou teixá, paiciéndume qu'espatuxaba mái llixeiru qu'oitres veices, al ratiquín vilu golguer col sou burriquín del ramal, qu’al colocalu ‘l lláu del d'el xitanu paicía un nanu pelu pequenu ya rancuátchu que yera, fói entoncienes cundu m'ariméi 'l lláu d'échus cundu envidayéi que diben cheldar un tratu. TRADUCCIÓN.—Cuando los gitanos llegaron al riachuelo, dejaron a su borrica y al otro pollino sueltos, para que pacieran por allí a su antojo, lo poco que había que patiar mientras que el pollino de la lujosa cabezada le amarrarón al tronco de una pequeña higuera, y allí le dieron algo de pación que recogían en las cuestas y difíciles orillas del torrente, que segaban con una pequeña hoz, tal parecía que aquel pollino le cuidaban mejor que a los otros, por alguna secreta razón que yo no comprendía. Allí rumiando atado a la higuera estaba comiendo lo que le daban, mientras que al lado de él, sentado se encontraba un gitano que parsimoniosamente pelaba las mimbres para hacer cestas, cuando acertó casual o intencionadamente a pasar por el lugar Pín el Sordo, que se comenzaría a llamarlo Pín el Topo en toda la aldea y sus contornos desde aquel mismo día. —Pín que entendía mucho de animales por haberse criado toda su vida entre ellos cuando vio aquel burro de tan buena presencia, que comía como un desespera aquellos hierbajos, que cualquiera de sus animales despreciaría, y que par espantaba las moscas dando recios y enérgicos coces, fuertes rabotazos y hasta con su hocico con recio regio las espantaba hasta el lugar que se lo permitía el ramal que le ataba. Se detuvo y empezó a dialogar con el gitano de cosas que yo no podía oír por encontrarme demasiado alejado de ellos jugando a mi manera, mientras que en todo momento observaba a los gitanos todos sus movimientos, pues así me lo había ordenado un tío mío, que tenía una huerta sembrada de patatas por aquellos lugares, y no fuera a ser que estos condenados entrasen en ella, y le robasen un grande cesto de patatas. —Nada de cuanto hablaban les escuchaba, pero si que observe a Pín con miradas simulosas propiar al pollino por todas partes, para después, cuando se levanto el gitano y dejó su trabajo, comenzar a registrar al jumento así por encima sin mucho detenimiento, para después marcharse camino de su casa, pareciéndome a mí que caminaba con más ligeraza que otras veces. Al poco tiempo le vi retornar con su borriquito del ramal, que al colocarle al lado del de el gitano, tal parecía un enano por lo pequeño y ruin que era, mi curiosidad me hizo acercarme al lado de ellos, y así pude comprobar como querían hacer un trato. —Cundu 'l xitanu agüeyóu 'l buchacu de Pín xonriyendu le dixu, que comu teñía la poucu vergüenxa del querer cambear el sou buchecín, que yera de fierru ferrunóuxu, per el sou pótchin, que yera de goru macizu, pos xin él tal couxa fixera xemeyaría 'l toipu que cambeóu lus güétchus pel ráu. TRADUCCIÓN.—Cuando el gitano vio el enclenque burro de Pín sonriéndose despreciativamente le dijo: —Que como tenía la poca vergüenza de querer cambiarme aquel despreciable borrico que era de hierro herrumbroso, por el su preciado pollino que era de oro macizo. Pues si tal cosa yo hiciese, decía sonriente el gitano, me parecía al topo, que cambió los ojos por el rabo. Pín con suaves palabras le dijo, que si algo de dinero le tenía que dar encima, que fuera una cosa justa y no una ladronada, que allí estaba él para lo que fuese honrado. —El gitano entonces comenzó a buscar los defectos del borrico de Pín, con la experiencia de ser consumado maestro en tal oficio, lo tocó y lo miró entero en menos tiempo del canto del gallo, y después muy seriamente le dijo, que su borrico era muy viejo, que le faltaban algunas muelas, y que tenía el mal de tener muy a menudo diarreas, total que si quería cambiar su pollinín por el suyo, le tenía que dar diez duros encima y dos más por la cabezada, ya que a su pollino no le servía, pues cogía todo él dentro de ella. —Pín el Sordo asiendo al gitano por su palabra le dijo, que estaba de acuerdo en darle los diez pesos por su pollino y el suyo encina, pero por lo que no pasaba era por el comprarle la cabezada, pues sospechaba que aquel lujoso arnés, era sin duda el fruto de un robo, y no fuera la cosa que un día se encontrara con su dueño en algún mercado o feria, y él se viese metido en un vergonzoso compromiso. —Hágame el favor paisano, le contestó el gitano muy enojado y sulfurado, ¿usted no tiene ojos en su cara de bestia para observar que esta cabezada esta hecha a la medida de mi pollino? —Y si piensa que este cabezal ha sido robado, piense también que el pollino venía con él, y ya sabiendo o suponiendo que entrambas cosas son de la procedencia de la rapiña, puede usted marchar con prisa a denunciarme, porque yo ya no le cambiar mi pollino por su enclenque borriquillo, ni aunque me dé veinte duros encima y cuatro más por la cabezada. Así pues, hágame el favor de marcharse de mi lado sino quiere que nos enzarcemos a leñazos, por la causa de usted haberme ofendido llamándome ladrón. —Nun quixe ufendélu bon xitanu, peru you xempre disdi guaxín ureéi falar a les xentes viétchas, qu'el ufixu de lus xitanus ye 'l faer curioxas cestiquines de blimbles, arrapiegar lu que fore ya enduétbichar fadiernus tratus entivocandu lus iñoxentes paixanus. TRADUCCIÓN.—No he querido ofenderle buen gitano, pero yo desde niño siempre he oído decir a las gentes viejas, que el oficio de los gitanos, es el hacer hermosas y serviciales cestas de mimbres, robar todo cuanto tuvieran a mano, y enredar buenos tratos equivocando a los inocentes paisanos. Así que retiro lo de llamarle ladrón, y démosnos la mano dando por hecho este trato. —El gitano con señales plasmadas en su esquelético rostro de encontrarse muy enojado, le dijo a Pín el Sordo en el hacer que le daba su mano. —Jamás niego yo mi mano a quién me pide perdón, pero clavado tengo todavía en mi pensamiento la ofensa que me ha hecho al llamarme ladrón, por esta razón, mientras que no se marche del todo de mi pensamiento tan dañino sentimiento, dejemos el trato nada más que en lo hablado, y si desde aquí a la anochecer puedo olvidar la enfadadura que me ha hecho, entonces a lo mejor daremos el trato por hecho. —Cuando llegó el oscurecer del día, Pín el Sordo hizo acto de presencia al lado de los hórreos, para saber si al gitano ya le hubiese desaparecido el enfado, y se puso muy contento cuando le vió, reírse muy alegre y feliz al lado de sus gentes, por esta razón se acercó a su lado, y en el hacer que le ponía halagosamente una mano encima de su hombro le dijo: —Bueno gitano, qué hacemos el trato dándolo por terminado del todo, o todavía se remoja usted en el lar de estar enojado. —El gitano parlanchín y alegre le dijo, que ya se encontraba tan contento como antes de haberle conocido a él, y que el trato estaba cerrado y bien hecho, si encima de lo acordado, le daba un cesto de patatas para hacer la cena, y una jarra de leche para los niños pequeños. —Ya hecha la noche por completo, dieron el trato por hecho, entrambos muy contentos y satisfechos, Pín el Toipu marchó para su casa llevando al burro del gitano asido por el ramal de la lujosa cabezada, diciéndole en silencio su cerebro, que había hecho según su parecer un buen negocio, ya que su pollino nadie en su aldea lo quería aunque lo regalase. Así que llegando a su cuadra con su nuevo burro le ató a la pesebrera, le dio un buen pienso de hierba y mientras que el pollino con grande apetito la engullía con prisa, le palpó y reparó cuidadosamente por todas sus partes menos por los ojos, y quedó prendado de él en todos los sentidos. —Cundu lus malvixus xilbiaban lus albiares d'oitre díe, lus xitanus se xebraben muy cuntentus de miou aldina, ye d'antigu 'l xaber, que cundu lus xitanus encaldan anguna rapiegá, xempre colen endenantes de que les xentes del llugar espierten p'escubriya, foi anxina naquel xuceder, pos cundu Pín El Toípu fói atreínar el ganáu a la sou corte, lu primeiru que fexu fói chái una güétcha 'l sou nuéu pótchín ya viólu corriudu ya uriscu, paiciénduye que despós la fartura de bona yerbe que viexe enzuleu, fasta llucía mexor pelaxe, metandu que faluchandu conxigu mesmu se decía, que namái que auxare la fame del sou curpu, aquel pótchin diba ser mu nomáu n'aldina. —Despós d'abrañar les dous bétchaes que tenía na corte, perqu'el oitre ganáu taba nel puertu, dióule la sou mucher d'almorzar un bon escudítchau de papes con lleichi cabantes d'afoxinar, ya despós de fartu, díxole a la sou muyer que diba dír al puertu pa ver comu s'atopaba 'l ganáu, ya que diba dire axinetáu nel burru p'uxervar la xixa a maneires que tenía. —Anxina foi, que xacóu 'l pótchin de la corte pel ramal fasta la correlá de sou teixu, dou la sou mucher l'aguardaba p'agüétchalu per primeira véiz, ya namái quei llancóu lus sous güeyus denriba, díxole cuntenta 'l sou home que viexe fechu xegún picíe un fadiernu tratu, Pín el Toípu metandu l'aparexaba con l'albardaxa del oitre pótchin que de pequena quei venía cuaxi nui algemía, falabai a la sou muyer ameruxáu d'allegría ya envelexáu per dáxeyes de llistu ante la sou muyer, qu'urear nun uriaba munchu per cuaxes de la sou xordeira, peru qu'al güeyu yal vidayu poucus l'algamían, la sou muyer que yera una andoyona reyía fellíz escontres el sou llistu home, ya entrambus per aquel pótchin per un momentu forun fellices, fasta que Pín escarranquetánduxe denría 'l pótchin, díxole a la sou muche que lluéu taría de regolguía, nel encaldar que con el sou cayaducu l'apuría 'l burru cuaxi cuaxi falagoxamente paque comencipiara a caminar, e anxina lu fexu 'l pótchin ya nun paróu fasta qu'el sou focicu nun truñóu escontres la porta de la teixá del Puchegu, que taba cual char tamén almorzandu les papes, ya dexandu la tareña xaliú a la caleya dou vióu a Pín el Toipu andar al remolín d’un lláu p’oitre de la caleya xin faer brexu d'aquel condenáu pótchin per munchu que col cayáu ya les brindes l’acaidonaba el xétchu d'andar drechu couxa qu'el probe pótchin nun podíe faer per que taba ciegu comu ‘n toípu, ya nun l’escubrióu Pín xinún el Puchegu, que yera un útre p’urear, agüétchar ya envidayar cuallesquier bétcha ou escosá couxa. Es de antiguo ya sabido entre las hidalgas y nobles gentes de estos maravillosos y embrujantes valles y montañas, que cuando los gitanos hacen algún ladronizo, engaño o timo, siempre se ausentan antes que las personas del lugar se despierten para descubrirlos, y así fue en aquel acontecer, pues cuando Pín el Topo ya con el día alumbrado del todo, fue a su cuadra a ordeñar y cebar al ganado, lo primero que hizo fue mirar con marcado profundo a su nuevo pollino, y lo vió recio, con genio espantadizo, pareciéndole a él, que después de la buena hartura de la excelente hierba que había comido, parecía más lucido su pelaje, y hablando consigo mismo muy contento se decía, que nada más que se alejara el hambre de su cuerpo, aquel pollino iba a ser muy renombrado en la aldea. —Después de arreglar las dos vacas paridas que tenía en el establo, porque el otro ganado que tenía por aquella época estaba en el puerto pastiando, le dió su mujer el desayuno, que consistía en una escudilla grande de harina cocida, comida a la par de la espumosa leche recién ordeñada, y después que se hartó, le dijo a su mujer, que iba a ir hasta el puerto, para ver como se encontraba el ganado, y que iba montado sobre el burro, para observar su fuerza y las otras maneras que pudiera tener. Así fue que sacó al pollino de la cuadra cogido de su ramal hasta la corralada de su casa, donde su mujer le esperaba para mirar por primera vez aquel burro tan aponderado de su marido, y nada más que sus ojos le repararon con interesado deseo, díjole muy contenta a su marido, que hubiese hecho según su apreciación un buen trato. —Pín el Toípu mientas le aparejaba con la albarda del otro pollino que de pequeña que era casi no le valía, le decía a su mujer lleno de alegría y endiosado por sentirse agudo y listo ante los ojos de su mujer. —Yo oír no oigo mucho por causa de la sordera, pero a vista e inteligencia muy pocos me alcanzan. La su mujer que era una inocentona, se reía muy feliz hacía su listo marido, y entrambos por aquel pollino en aquellos momentos se sentían felices, y a la par que Pín montaba en su pollino a su mujer le hacía, que muy pronto estaría de vuelta, y seguido le daba al burro con el callado casi, casi como halagándole para que se pusiese en camino, y así lo hizo el buen pollino, no deteniéndose en su camino, hasta que su hocico no tropezó contra la puerta de la casa del satírico, que en aquel suceder también estaba desayunando las papes, y ante tal golpetazo, dejó su escudilla saliendo con rapidez a la calleja, donde vio a Pín el Topo dando vueltas a caballo de su burro de un lado para otro de la calle, sin poder conducir aquel condenado asno, por mucho que lo intentaba con el callado y las bridas para ensenderarlo en el surco del caminar enderechura, cosa que el desgraciado pollino no podía hacer, porque se encontraba tan ciego como el topo, y no descubrió este mal Pín, sino que fue su vecino Satírico, que era un verdadero águila en el oír, ver y pensar en cualquier rica o pobre cosa, y como buen satírico que era le habló a Pín de esta manera: —Disdi güéi Pín el Xordapu tou l'aldina chamarate Pín el Toípu, perque hay que tar de cegaretu comu isti llabrador xin llabiegu, pa nun ver disdi prinxipíu qu'isti pótchin nun vei goteira per dagún de lus dous güetchus. Conistu queru falate queríu veicín de la porta la teixá, que con la rebaxa que te faigu ben me pués faer una bona propaganda. TRADUCCIÓN.—Desde el día de hoy Pín el Sordo, toda la aldea te llamará Pín el Topo, porque hay que estar tan ciego como este labrante sin arado, para no ver desde principio que este pollino no veía ni gota por ninguno de entrambos ojos. Pín se apeo de su asno sin pronunciar palabra, a la vez que halagaba al pollino, dándole a entender que no estaba enojado con él y asiéndole por el ramal le volvió a atar dentro de su establo, lo desaparejo y le dio un buen brazado de hierba, y sentándose en el pesebre junto a él, comenzó a hablarle de la siguiente forma: —No pienses mi pollino que estoy enojado contigo, porque te encuentras completamente ciego, yo se muy bien que eres un buen pollino, grande, fuerte, sano y entero, como si fueses de la parada de los sementales, por esto, de ahora en adelante, yo seré tus propios ojos y tu harás los mis trabajos, yo te llevaré bien conducido por el ramal y harás los mismos quehaceres de los demás pollinos de la aldea, lo único que no podré será el ajinetarme encima de tu lomo, pero de todos los demás labores, se que no dejarás de hacer ninguno y hasta puede que los realices mejor que el más avispado de tus hermanos de burrería, por está razón te digo, que casi me encuentro contento de haber realizado tu trato con los condenados gitanos, pues por haber hecho tal negocio con ellos, al resultarme tú del todo ciego, mis vecinos me quitaron desde hoy el nombre de Pin el Sordo, desde el mimo momento que el Puchegu me llamó Pín el Topíu, que es lo mismo que si me bautizase el cura de nuevo. —Aquel gigante de ciego pollino, bien dirigido por el inteligente Pín el Topo, con tal precisión realizaba todos sus trabajos, que era querido, aponderado y respetado, no sólo por las gentes de mi aldea, sino en todas las otras que la rodeaban. Y era tan renombrado aquel excepcional pollino, porque hacía cosas que jamás habían sido hechas por ningún otro pollino aunque tuviese los ojos con buena vista, el ciego burro, que siempre tenía el pesebre lleno de buena hierba, que érale para él manjar divino, engordó y se rehizo, al tenor que iba sacando la miseria y el hambre de su cuerpo, y como era aun joven dentro de lo que cabía, se hizo un pollino aún casi mejor que los que tenían de sementales en la cuadra de la parada. —Un día su vecino el Puchego, le dijo a Pín que su pollina andaba en el celo de necesitar semental, y que si le dejaba que su pollino la cubriera. Pín que no alcanzaba el hacer las sátiras tan bien niveladas y agudas como el Puchegu, que fue capaz de cambiarle el nombre de Pín el Sordo por el de Pín el Toípu, si que su pensamiento casi siempre navegante en la inteligencia le alumbró lo siguiente. —Como mi ciego pollino es semental de postinera parada, y no sólo por su gallarda presencia, sino porque tal parece que también tiene una pequeña alma, si tú deseas que cubra a tu pollina, me tienes que pagar por tal servicio un duro, y esto a ti que eres vecino de la puerta de casa, pero a todas las demás gentes que quieran pedirme lo mismo que tú, les cobraré dos pesos más, pues tener en el establo una descendencia de mi pollino, es lo mismo que poseer la mayor joya de toda la burrería. Con esto pretendo decirte querido vecino de la puerta casa, y con la rebaja que te estoy haciendo, tú bien me puedes hacer una buena propaganda.

    verb
    2) tell
    * * *
    DECIR ¿"Say" o "tell"? Decir se puede traducir por say o por tell. Por regla general, say simplemente {dice} y tell {informa} u {ordena hacer algo}. Decir generalmente se traduce por say en estilo directo. Normalmente no lleva un complemento de persona pero si se menciona a quién se está dirigiendo el hablante, el complemento de persona tiene que ir precedido por la preposición to: "Ya son las tres", dije "It's already three o'clock," I said "¡Qué tiempo más malo!" Eso fue lo único que me dijo "What awful weather!" That's all he said to me ► En estilo indirecto, decir se puede traducir por say cuando simplemente se cuenta lo que alguien ha dicho. Si say lleva complemento de persona, este se coloca después del complemento directo: Dijo que se tenía que marchar He said he had to leave Me dijo algo que no entendí He said something to me that I didn't understand ► Decir se traduce por tell cuando se {informa} o se {ordena hacer algo}. Suele llevar un objeto de persona sin la preposición to: Me dijo que tenía una entrevista de trabajo He told me he had a job interview ¡Te he dicho que no lo toques! I told you not to touch it! ► Hay algunos usos idiomáticos en los que decir se traduce por tell aunque no lleva complemento de persona. Por ejemplo: to tell the truth (decir la verdad) y to tell a lie (decir una mentira). Otros verbosSi decir va acompañado de un calificativo en español, a menudo se puede traducir al inglés por otros verbos que no sean say o tell: "Lo he perdido todo", dijo entre sollozos "I've lost everything," she sobbed Dijo con voz ronca algo sobre necesitar un médico He croaked something about needing a doctor Para otros usos y ejemplos ver la entrada Para otras expresiones con el participio, ver dicho.

  • 4 maereiru

    Maereiru, maderero, persona que trabaja en la madera. Lo mismo fui maderero o serrador que viene a ser parecido. Empecé a trabajar cuando tenía doce o trece años, me recuerdo que me pagaban nueve pesetas diarias, disdi 'l albiar el díe fasta la sou tapecíe (desde que amanecía hasta que la noche llegaba), puedo asegurar que he tenido el mejor maestro xerrador d'Asturies, el más duro, el más repugnante, un hombre que durante el trabajo no hablaba nada más que de cuando se relacionara con él, no olvidare jamás que tanto a mí como a un hijo de él llamado Mual que componíamos el trío en el trabajo, nos trataba Nelín que era su padre, lo mismo que si fuésemos dos esclavos, muchas veces el condenado nus untaba 'l focicu conún faticáu d'ostiazus, ya nun yera desmediu cundu nus falagaba les mexiétches, pos apurríanus a entrambus cuaxi xempre lus mesmus ostiazus. (Nos azotaba el rostro con algunas tortas o castañazos, y no desacompasaba nunca cuando nos halagaba a ostiazos nuestras mejillas, pus nos daba casi siempre a los dos por igual los mismos tortazos). Mi vida durante varios años, hasta que me marché temporalmente de mi aldina deslizó trabajando siempre con este condenado paisano y con otros maderaros de la comarca, menos el mes de la yerbe, pues en este mes yo ganaba mucho más de yerbeiru en cualquier caseríu, que trabajando dos meses a la madera. Les voy a contar ahora un caso que nos sucedió a Muel y a mi, cuando ya éramos mozacones que ya cortexábamus. Sucedió un domingo que estábamos serrando madera en un castañéu de la nuexa aldina, seria como a las cinco de la tarde, y nosotros queríamos marchar para ir a cortejar a un pueblo de Quiros donde Muel y yo teníamos mozuca el caso fue que él nos dijo que nos dejaría marchar cuando entalleráramos una rolla que tenía un metro de batalla (grueso) en el serradero. Conformes nosotros entre los tres trabajamos en duro con palancas y tirones de arreventamiento, hasta que al fin conseguimos poner aquella enorme rolla de castaño de más de mil kilos de peso encima del aserradero lista para serrarla. Entonces él nos dijo que para cortejar no se necesitaba mucho tiempo si se sabía aprovechar, y que como todavía era céu, que íbamos a serrar un poco por la rolla, que era un trabajo que teníamos adelantado para mañana. Así pues que sin urniar pallabra (decir palabra) dimos comienzo a serrar por aquella rolla, él encima de ella y nosotros abajo y mientras que él desde arriba nos dominaba avasalladoramente y quizás riéndose para sus adentros, nosotros desde abajo muy silenciosamente a la par que trabajábamos en el durísimo trabajo de tirar por la sierra estábamos madurando la forma de deshacernos de él para poder marcharnos, porque por el sol, ya que reloj no teníamos, nos parecía que ya era. bastante tarde. Así pues, los tres estabamos unidos a la sierra, Muel y yo cogidos a la manilla de abajo y Nelín encima de la rolla asido a la manilla de arriba, cuando de golpe nosotros llancamus (plantamos) la sierra a enxecu (clavamos y ferramos de repente) a la par que tirábamos por ella con gran rapidez hacia detrás, con este movimiento rápido e inesperado, cogimos desprevenido a Nelín, que no le dio tiempo a esquivar el golpe que le venía encima, y la manilla de arriba a la cual él estaba asido no con mucha fuerza, le vino con duro golpe a machacar su frente y medio aturdido se desplomo desde lo alto de la rolla hasta el suelo del aserradero, y bien por casualidad o porque su gran agilidad lo buscara, cayo encima de su hijo Muel, al que asiendo con una mano con fuerza, con la otra de apoderó del moqueteiru (instrumento de madera para asegurar la cuña de la manilla inferior de la sierra, de casi un kilo de peso y unos treinta centímetros de largo) y con grande saña y fuerza comenzó a darle palos, y yo que sabía que pronto iba a recibir los mismos, xebreme fuyendu en aburiéxa galamiada del lleu d'echus (me marche huyendo a las carreras del lado de ellos), pero no llevaría andados unos metros cuando sentí en una pierna un golpetazo fuerte que no me privo de seguir corriendo pero cojeando lleno de dolor y con menos fuerza, ya que vi a Muel traspasarme como alma que lleva el diablo y sangrando por la cabeza. El caso fuera, que Nelín al ver como yo se le escapaba me lanzo el condenado moqueteiru con tal acierto y fuerza que me dejó algo cojo durante alguno días. Pero a pesar de estar los dos matauriáus (heridos), no dejamos de ir a cortejar, aunque teníamos que caminar más de diez kilómetros, y otros tantos de avenida, para después levantarnos antes de amanecen para serrar todo el día como esclavos de amo endemoniado.
