Nota d'usoL'espressione fare il bagno (in mare, lago ecc.) non va tradotta letteralmente con “to make a bath”. In inglese vengono usati modi di dire diversi, come ad esempio, “to go for a swim” o, più colloquialmente, “to go for a dip”: Ieri ho fatto il bagno in mare, yesterday I went for a swim in the sea (non yesterday I made a bath in the sea). Esiste anche il verbo “to bathe”, che tuttavia è usato più raramente: Oggi voglio fare il bagno, today I want to bathe. Fare il bagno nella vasca, invece, si traduce, generalmente in con “to have (o take) a bath”: Stasera farò un lungo bagno caldo, tonight I'll take a long, hot bath. Anche i verbi “to bath” e “to bathe” indicano un immersione nell'acqua, ma vengono usati per lo più in senso transitivo: Devo fare il bagno al cane, I have to bath the dog. -

Nota d'usoL'espressione farsi la barba non va tradotta letteralmente con “to do one's beard”. In inglese si può utilizzare semplicemente il verbo “to shave” oppure la locuzione “to have a shave”: Devo farmi la barba, I need to have a shave (non I need to do my beard). Utilizzando il verbo “to do” si genera un altro significato, quello di “dare una sistemata”, e non quello di una rasatura completa. -
