דַּוָּארI, דַּוָּואר, דַּוָּור m. (דּוּר I, cmp. preced.) 1) (transl. of cursor) mail-carrier, despatch-bearer. Tanḥ. Ekeb 11 ד׳ שהיה מהלךוכ׳ a cursor who travelled with an ordinance in his hand. Sabb.19a קכיע ד׳ כמתא Ms. M. (ed. בי ד׳) the mail-carrier (ed. the post office) is permanently located in town. 2) (Pers. dâvar, judge, ruler, Fl.) בֵּי ד׳ the (Persian) circuit court consisting of regular law scholars, opp. דייני דמגיסתא squires in country places ignorant of the law. B. Kam. 114a (Ms. R. אַבֵּי ד׳ in the, Ms. M. בודאור, corr. acc.). Gitt.58b כיון דאיכא בי ד׳וכ׳ since there exists (in Persia) a lawful court, and he did not sue (the tax officer). Ab. Zar.26a נקיטא לי זימנא לבי ד׳ I am summoned to court (and have no time). (In later Hebr. literature בי דואר is used in the sense of post-office. -
