Рост цен, вызванный превышением спроса над предложением в масштабах всей экономики. При полной занятости в экономике всех трудовых и прочих ресурсов избыточный спрос может исчезнуть только в результате роста цен. Популярная в 1960-1970-х гг. под названием кейнсианской теории инфляции (inflation), эта теория в 1980-х гг. была вытеснена монетаристскими теориями инфляции.
