L’EDI (échange de données informatisées) est utilisé par les entreprises pour la gestion des bons de commande, des bons de livraison et des factures. Prenons l’exemple des librairies. Le libraire envoie son lot de commandes par EDI à un serveur spécialisé, par exemple Dilicom. Chaque distributeur prend connaissance des commandes qui le concernent et les traite automatiquement. Il existe deux manières de passer commande par EDI: l’envoi de fichiers par un système de gestion informatique ou bien la saisie directe sur un site internet. Ces transactions sont possibles grâce au code informatique de huit chiffres spécifique à une librairie donnée. Le correspondant anglais est EDI (Electronic Data Interchange).
