       ◘ Loc. lat. que significa literalmente 'modo de vivir'. Se emplea como locución nominal masculina para designar el arreglo de carácter provisional que se establece entre dos partes en conflicto mientras se encuentra una solución definitiva: "Con el fin de evitar nuevos bloqueos, las instituciones acordaron [...] un modus vivendi aplicable hasta el reexamen de esta cuestión en la Conferencia Intergubernamental de 1996" ( Unión Europea [Esp. 1996]). En el lenguaje corriente ha pasado también a utilizarse con el sentido de 'modo de ganarse la vida': "¿Cuándo se ha sentenciado a los incontables violadores de urnas que han hecho de esta actividad un modus vivendi desde 1928?" (MtnMoreno Respuesta [Méx. 1994]). Es invariable en plural: los modus vivendi. [RAE: Diccionario panhispánico de dudas. Madrid: Santillana, 2005, p. 442]
       Generalmente se usa para referirse al modo de ganarse la vida.
