Créée en juin 2003 par Rafi Haladjian, fondateur en 1994 de l’opérateur internet FranceNet, la société Ozone a pour objectif de développer le "réseau pervasif". Le réseau pervasif est la génération suivante de l’internet, qui permettra de connecter en tout lieu et en permanence tout type d’appareil à travers un réseau omniprésent. La première réalisation de cet opérateur unique en son genre est l’Ozone Paris, basé sur la technologie WiFi (wireless fidelity). Ozone Paris, d’abord disponible dans le 13e arrondissement, installe progressivement ses antennes dans tous les quartiers parisiens. "Dans les oZones, les zones couvertes par Ozone, les utilisateurs peuvent utiliser l’ensemble des services de l’internet: web, mail, téléphone sur internet, téléchargements, etc., chez eux comme au jardin public de leur quartier. La vitesse de connexion est de 2 à 4 mégabits, et ce de manière symétrique, contrairement aux autres modes d’accès." Quel est le mode de fonctionnement? "Inspiré par le ’peering’ à l’origine de l’internet, Ozone fournit à ses utilisateurs des équipements qu’il a mis au point et qui leur permettent à la fois de se connecter et de relayer le signal d’Ozone à l’adresse de toute la communauté des utilisateurs d’Ozone." En avril 2006, Ozone couvre 40% de Paris, et s’installe à Rennes (Bretagne) et à Bruxelles (Belgique). A terme, Ozone envisage de couvrir trente villes européennes. En mai 2007, la société est rachetée par Neuf Cegetel. -

atmospheric ozone
A triatomic molecule of oxygen; a natural constituent of the atmosphere, with the highest concentrations in the ozone layer or stratosphere; it is found at a level between 15 and 30 km above the Earth, which prevents harmful ultraviolet B radiation, which causes skin cancer and threatens plant life, from reaching the ground. The fragile shield is being damaged by chemicals released on Earth. The main chemicals that are depleting stratospheric ozone are chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), which are used in refrigerators, aerosols and as cleaners in many industries and halons, which are used in fire extinguishers.
