Модель структуры ДНК, согласно которой полинуклеотидные цепи закручены в двойную спираль вокруг воображаемой оси. Обе цепи скреплены водородными связями, соединяющими основания, которые обращены внутрь спирали. На один виток спирали приходится около 10 пар оснований. Последовательность оснований в двух цепях комплементарна. Направление цепей противоположно (см. также спираль).
