A 1995 European Court of Justice decision, primarily effective in the European countries concerned, which led to the abolition of transfer payments for players whose contract has expired, and to the abolition of limitations on foreign players in club teams.► The Bosman ruling was the result of a lawsuit filed by the professional player Jean-Marc Bosman against his former club, who stopped his move to a new club by demanding a high transfer fee.
