От семи до девяти (NTSC) или десяти (PAL) периодов поднесущей размещено на конце строчного гасящего импульса в качестве фазового (цветового) опорного сигнала для модулированной цветовой поднесущей. Сигнал цветовой синхронизации служит эталоном для цветного изображения.
