Число знаков, которое может быть представлено в символе штрихового кода на единицу длины или площади, выраженное как число знаков на сантиметр для линейных символик и на квадратный сантиметр для многострочных символик.
Примечания
1. К управляемым факторам, оказывающим влияние на плотность штриховых кодов, относят ширину самого узкого штриха или пробела, отношение широкого элемента к узкому, количество штрихов и пробелов в знаке символа, ширину межзнакового интервала (при наличии).
2. Плотность символа штрихового кода может измеряться как число знаков на дюйм (cpi - characters per inch) или на квадратный дюйм.
