Материалы, образующие нижние слои лакокрасочных покрытий на металле, дереве и др. материалах. Осн. назнач. г. — создание надежного сцепления верх. (кроющих) слоев покрытия с окрашив. пов-тью. Г. могут одновременно выполнять и др. функции: защищать металл от коррозии, «выявлять» текстуру дерева, перекрывать поры и др. дефекты на окрашив. пов-ти и т. д. Г. готовят на основе природных или синтетич., жидких или тв. пленкообразующих вещ-в - олиф, алкидных смол, эпоксидных смол и др. Толщина пленки грунтовочного состава обычно 10-100 мкм.
