Основным критерием классификации внешних займов служит определяемый соглашением или контрактом срок их выплаты. Займы считаются краткосрочными, если они предоставляются на срок не более двух лет. Потребность в заемных платежных средствах на такой период особенно часто возникает при осуществлении внешнеторговых операций.
