ХТО с одновременным или последовательным насыщением металлов и сплавов кремнием и бором; применяется для повышения износостойкости, реже жаростойкости и коррозионной стойкости.
Основные способы б.: электролиз в расплаве Na2B4O7 и Na2SiO3 (при B:Si = 0,50-f +0,86), обеспечив. образование в поверхностном слое стали боридов железа (FeB, Fe2B) и силицида железа FeSi; б. при 1000-1050 °С в порошкообразной смеси, состоящей из карбида бора (84 %) и буры (16 %), к которым добавляется смесь кристаллич. Si (95 %) и NH4Cl (5 %), диффузионный слой состоит из боридов FeB и Fe2B и силицидов FeSi и Fe2Si.
