= цис-действующая последовательностьнуклеотидная последовательность, расположенная на 5'-конце гена, наиболее важная для инициации и эффективной транскрипции гена; место, где строится транскрипционный комплекс. Ц.д.э. подразделяются на промоторы, энхансеры и сайленсеры. У эукариот несколько сходных нуклеотидных последовательностей содержатся в промоторах многих генов. Одна из таких последовательностей — TATA-бокс (см. Хогнесса бокс) — расположена на расстоянии 25—30 п.н. от начала транскрипции. Другими часто встречающимися перед генами нуклеотидными последовательностями являются ЦAAT-бокс (см. ЦААТ-бокс) и ГЦ-бокс. Поскольку мутанты этих трех нуклеотидных последовательностей экспрессируют мРНК лишь на низких уровнях, они рассматриваются как наиболее важные в создании основного транскрипционного комплекса.
