    Прилагательное случайный имеет несколько эквивалентов в английском языке: accidental, casual, chance, fortuitous, incidental, random и haphazard. Accidental означает 'непредвиденный, неожиданный' и может взаимозаменяться с casual и chance: accidental meeting, casual meeting и chance meeting; accidental remark, casual remark и chance remark; accidental visitor, casual visitor и chance visitor. fortuitous имеет значение 'незакономерный': fortuitous process, fortuitous phenomena. incidental означает 'второстепенный, происходящий наряду с главным': incidental results, incidental expenses. random означает 'нецеленаправленный, бессистемный, сделанный наугад': random shot, random collection of books, random choice, random answers. haphazard употребляется в значении 'непродуманный': haphazard methods of teaching, haphazard arrangement of books in one's library.
