Tanḥ. Tsav. 14 האש המ׳ על המזבחוכ׳ the fire entertained on the altar will atone for him. Yalk. Lev. 479, end, v. infra. Nithpa. נִתּוֹקַד to burn itself into. Lev. R. s. 7 (ref. to Lev. 6:2) it does not say ‘the fire of the altar shall be kept burning on it, but in it, האש היתה מִתּוֹקֶדֶת בו the fire was burning itself into it (the altar); Yalk. l. c. המזבח היה מוּקָד באש the altar was burned into by the fire. Lev. R. l. c. קרוב … היתה האש מִתּוֹקֶדֶת בווכ׳ for nearly one hundred and sixteen years was the fire burning itself into it, (and yet) its wood was not consumed
