1 Bromelia Fibres
In Mexico the Bromelia is cultivated in parts as a textile plant and a fibre is obtained from it which is very fine and from 6 feet to 8 feet, in length and very tough. It is used for making belts, and for bagging, wagon sheets, carpets, cordage, etc. Also known as the wild pineapple. Bromelia Pinguin is the best known of this class of plant. -

3 Ananas Hemp
The fibres of the Bromelia ananas from the West Indies and South America, are long and tough; used by the natives to produce a coarse fabric similar to linen. -
4 Caraguata Fibre
Very long, soft, silky leaf fibre of good strength, obtamed from the Bromelia plant in Paraguay, used for ropes. The plant grows better wild than cultivated, and has many thorns, making it difficult to gather. It grows everywhere, and after the plant is cut down, new shoots spring up from the roots. -

Pine glossy fibre, obtained from a species of the Bromelia in Brazil, used for ropes. -
6 Chagnar Fibre
A strong leaf fibre, yielded by the Bromelia Serra in Argentine and used for making cordage, bags, ham mocks, etc. Also the Mataco Indians made a sort of cuirass from the fibres and wore it as a defence when at war. The cuirass was padded before and behind with cotton from the fruit of the " Yachan." When the natives roll themselves in water, the fibre swells, and the cuirass becpmes arrow-proof. -

A strong silky fibre obtained from a species of Bromelia and used by the natives of Demerara to make nets, cordage, bowstrings, etc. -
8 Honduras Silkgrass
The name given to the fibre yielded by the Bromelia Sylvestris plant growing in Central America. The fibre is very fine and long and is creamy white and silky. It is used by the natives for making pouches and finely-woven fabrics.Dictionary of the English textile terms > Honduras Silkgrass

9 Pineapple Fibre
A soft, very fine, lustrous and durable leaf fibre obtained from the pineapple in the Philippines. It is one of the finest fibres and used for the sbeerest muslins and the Pina cloth made in the Islands. The fibre has great durability and is unaffected by water. Also known as silk grass. It is also found in China, South America, Mexico and parts of Africa. The cost of production is very high which restricts its use. -
10 Pinguin Fibre
A long, weak and coarse leaf fibre from a species of the wild pineapple in Jamaica. Owing to the weakness of the fibre it is not now used commercially. -
