    3. used in response to a confirmation of one's or s.o.'s supposition, guess etc:
    - just as I (he etc) thought (said etc);
    - I thought so!;
    - I (just) knew it!;
    - I (he etc) knew it all along;
    - I (he etc) thought (said, knew etc) as much.
         ♦ Накануне вечером ему позвонил по телефону Ландесман, и Штрум ему сказал, что ничего не получается с его оформлением. "Я так и предполагал", - сказал Ландесман... (Гроссман 2).     used to express disagreement with some statement or strong skepticism that some action will take place:

    - as if s.o. would (actually) do sth.;
    - you've got to be kidding if you think...!;
    - [in limited contexts] fat chance!
         ♦ "Я попросил Аркадия привезти мне книги". - "Так он тебе и привезёт! Нашла кого просить!" "I asked Arkady to bring me (he books." "As if he'd actually bring them to you! You sure picked the right person to ask!"
    5. [used with a negated verb]
    used for emphasis when stating that sth. never occurred, was never completed etc:
    - [equivalents incorporate the negation](one) never (really < actually>) did...;
    - [in limited contexts] not once did (one ever).
         ♦ Ответа на заявление я так и не получил (Марченко 1). And I never did get a reply to my protest (1a).
         Так [ я] за всю войну и не увидел, чтобы подбили самолет (Искандер 6). In fact, not once during the course of the war did I ever see one of these planes put out of action (6a).
    6. used to emphasize that an action takes place in an unobstructed manner:
