Прибыль на инвестированный капитал является важным показателем эффективности использования активов организации; она позволяет сопоставить результаты деятельности компаний одной отрасли и дает возможность инвестору сравнить доходность различных отраслей промышленности. Однако важно уточнить, какой смысл вкладывается в понятие “капитал”. Часто прибыль на капитал рассчитывается путем сопоставления прибыли с балансовой стоимостью (book value) чистых активов. При таком методе стоимость активов может занижаться, поэтому более приемлемым является использование величины капитала, основанной на его рыночной оценке, хотя ее и труднее рассчитать. Важно также знать, какой показатель прибыли используется при калькуляции: это может быть прибыль до или после уплаты налогов, а также прибыль, в которой уже учтены либо не учтены резервы на покрытие “ плохих” долгов.
