Это выражение появилось в XVIII в. и передаёт чистоту и скромность невинной девушки, т. к. она краснеет не только потому, что является центром внимания, но ещё и потому, что замужество неминуемо связано с постелью. Не удивительно, что при современных нравах это выражение почти вышло из употребления. Один куплет популярной песенки 30-х гг. XX в. о приключениях мойщика окон звучит так:The blushing bride, she looks divine; The bridegroom he is doing fine. I'd rather have his job than mine When I'm cleaning windows. — Краснеющая невеста, она выглядит божественно;/ Жених в порядке./ Я бы предпочёл делать его работу, а не мою,/ Когда я мою окна.
