«Шишка». В середине XIX в. английские преступники называли деньги shot ; никто не знает почему. Это выражение вошло в криминальный жаргон, означая любую прибыль, полученную от преступной, незаконной сделки. Воровство, «дело» — приносило a bit shot. Постепенно значение этого слова изменилось, и оно стало обозначать того, кто совершил кражу, а человека, получившего большой куш, восхищённо называли a big shot.
