Устройство ввода данных, закодированных в символе штрихового кода, состоящее из сканера, посылающего в декодер сигналы, пропорциональные отражающей способности каждого очередного элемента символа, и декодера, который анализирует сигналы, поступающие от сканера, и преобразует их в распознаваемые либо пригодные для автоматизированной обработки данные.
Примечания
1. Иногда устройством считывания ошибочно называют только декодер.
2. В некоторых типах устройств считывания линейных и многострочных штриховых кодов в качестве элемента, регистрирующего световые сигналы, используют фоточувствительный прибор с зарядовой связью (ФПЗС).
