(аудит) Проверка годовой отчетности (annual accounts) организации. Внешний аудит ( external audit) проводится квалифицированным бухгалтером-ревизором accountant) с целью получить представление о достоверности отчетов. Законы о компаниях требуют, чтобы компании назначали аудитора (auditor), который должен судить о достоверности и правдивости информации, содержащейся в годовой отчетности, и о ее соответствии требованиям Законов о компаниях. Для выполнения своих обязанностей аудитору необходимо проверять внутреннюю бухгалтерию компании, ее активы, бухгалтерские проводки и т.д. Для некоторых организаций установлены особые аудиторские требования; например ревизоры представляют в Общество юристов результаты проверок адвокатской отчетности в соответствии с требованиями Правил ревизорской отчетности. Многие компании и организации в настоящее время назначают внутренних аудиторов для проведения внутреннего аудита (internal audit) с целью информирования менеджмента об эффективности и надежности применяемых компанией мер. В некоторых случаях эти меры даже не относятся к финансовой сфере; например может проводиться проверка соблюдения правил безопасности на рабочих местах или проверка на соответствие законодательству о равных возможностях.
